Le médaillon central du camée représente le triomphe de la Musique, figurée par une femme somptueusement parée, au milieu des autres Sciences et arts, dépréciés et dont les génies sont tous nus. Ils finissent d'ailleurs par être chassés du Temple des Disciplines humaines par les troupes de Charlatanerie et Ignorance. Le médaillon central est entouré de huit cartouches, le cartouche supérieur symbolisant le Palais de la Souveraineté, où siège le monarque, le seul capable de remédier à cette situation. Pour l'atteindre, le génie Technite et le Bon Sens passe par sept stations (les sept autres médaillons), correspondant aux époques et fondements de la société.

La face externe présente une tête de Gorgone Méduse, la face interne une scène qui a donné lieu à de multiples interprétations et dans laquelle Francesco Bianchini voit l'apothéose d'Alexandre le Grand. Gravée à Alexandrie, ayant circulé en intégrant les collections les plus prestigieuses, cette coupe de 20 cm de diamètre est de nos jours conservée au Musée archéologique de Naples.
